Looks like the sunny summer weather will continue to shine on Asheville and Western North Carolina this coming weekend, after a long, beautiful weekend of 5K races.

Nice change from last year, isn’t it? And just in time for the Blue Ridge Pride’s fourth annual Gay 5K, which starts at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, July 12 at Carrier Park on Amboy Road in the River Arts District. The USA T&F-registered race is a flat course around the park and along the French Broad River on the French Broad River Greenway.

Entry fee is $35 through 5 p.m. Friday, July 11, at www.runreg.com/brp-annual-gay-5k.

Race-day registration and chip pickup begins at 7:30 a.m.

The first 200 runners to register online will receive a T-shirt. Runners may form teams by registering at least three participants under the same team name. Prizes will be awarded to the top finisher in each age group for men and women.

Runners are encouraged to “show your color” by wearing costumes or pride colors.

The race will be followed by a Doggie FunDay and family-style picnic (bring a dish to share). Local adoption agencies will have animals for adoption.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome to participate in a free Dog Costume Parade starting at 11 a.m., with prizes to the top three dog costumes.

Veggie and meat hot dogs, chips, and drinks provided for a donation to the Pride Center of the Blue Ridge, and ice cream by The Hop. For more information, visit www.blueridgepride.com.
